CaixaBank

The financial institution is situated, for the tenth consecutive year, among the more sustainable companies in the world

  • The study, published by S&P Global, is based on the analysis that SAM has carried out of more than 7,000 companies around the world, including those selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Index
  • CaixaBank has improved in score and position in the ranking (seventh position in its sector) for its activity in sustainability.

The report Sustainability Yearbook 2021, published by S&P Global and based on the analysis that SAM has carried out of more than 7,000 companies all over the world, has positioned CaixaBank as one of the leading companies in sustainability worldwide. With this latest recognition, CaixaBank has now been present in the ranking for 10 years, four of which as bronze class. In addition, in 2021, the company chaired by Jordi Gual and directed by Gonzalo Gortázar has ascended to silver class following the report elaborated by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) analyst team.

In this edition, CaixaBank has improved both in score - 85 points, compared to the 81 gained in 2020 - and position in the ranking - seventh position - for its activity in sustainability. Authors of the study have analysed economic, environmental and social dimensions of the bank, including aspects such as its corporate governance structure, activity in sustainable finances, the application of codes of good practice and measures applied, the fight against climate change and social welfare activities.

To carry out this report, more than 7,000 companies across the world from 61 different sectors were analysed. The ranking includes 55 international banks, of which five are Spanish. With CaixaBank, there are 24 Spanish companies included in the report, which uses the same criteria and dimensions as the DJSI in terms of methodology.

CaixaBank, the benchmark in socially responsible banking

CaixaBank is an organisation with a far-reaching social vocation. A product of the inheritance that it has received, it is benchmark in socially responsible banking and maintains an attitude of serving its clients and wider society in general.

Thanks to its geographical capillarity, the CaixaBank branch network, present in 100% of towns with more than 10,000 inhabitants and 94% of those with more than 5,000, it is able to support the “la Caixa” Foundation in its social welfare activity, identifying the needs of local social organisations and channelling part of its Social Welfare programme. The collaboration between the two institutions has enabled thousands and small and medium sized social organisations to gain access to financial assistance to facilitate their projects.

CaixaBank is the only company that offers microloans to people with personal guarantees and without collateral, via MicroBank, to help them carry out their projects. CaixaBank’s responsible activities have been recognised by leading international bodies. The Dow Jones Sustainability Index ranks it among the best banks in the world in terms of corporate responsibility. Similarly, the international organisation CDP acknowledges CaixaBank as the leading bank in the fight against climate change. In addition, the United Nations has given the highest rating (A+) in sustainable investment to its subsidiaries VidaCaixa and CaixaBank Asset Management.
