Advances in mobile payments help to ensure a smoother, more secure and personalised user experience

  • The bank ramps up its digital transformation by achieving a record number of mobile purchases (100.7 million in June) and an expanding customer base.
  • A sizeable 38% of card purchases are now made via mobile devices and wearables, a figure that is expected to continue to rise significantly in the short term.
  • CaixaBank offers its customers a wide range of options for using their cards through these devices: Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Garmin Pay and SwatchPAY.

CaixaBank customers carried out 100.7 million mobile payment transactions in June 2025, up 34.4% on the same month last year, showing a consistent increase in the use of payments via mobile devices and wearables. The bank is pressing forward with its digital transformation, with record mobile payment transactions and an expanding customer base.

Over the last 12 months, the number of CaixaBank mobile payment customers has grown by 15.3% to reach 4.85 million, while the number of cards enrolled on digital devices has risen by 12.4% and now exceeds 7.3 million.

This means that 38% of card purchases are already made via mobile devices and wearables, a figure that is expected to rise sharply in the short term. This trend reveals not only an ongoing consolidation of payments by mobile phone, but also CaixaBank’s leadership in transforming digital consumption habits in Spain.

The bank offers a wide range of options for using its cards via mobile devices and wearables: Google Pay (for users of Android devices), Apple Pay (for iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac), Samsung Pay, Garmin Pay, and SwatchPAY. Using these technologies, customers can make purchases in physical stores with contactless payment terminals and to pay using apps and e-commerce websites with their mobile phones.

Advances in mobile payments help to ensure a smoother, more secure and personalised user experience, in line with customer expectations. With three layers of security and payment authorisation via biometric patterns, CaixaBank makes sure that all transactions are secure.

CaixaBank, leading the way in innovation and digital payment methods

Innovation in payment methods is key for CaixaBank, which has made the Group’s transformation one of the cornerstones of its 2025–2027 Strategic Plan, including the adoption of new technologies and the development of ground-breaking initiatives. With the largest digital customer base in the Spanish financial sector, 12.4 million (having added 600,000 customers in the last 12 months), the bank is on the cutting edge in developing new models and systems to meet its customers’ needs.  

Furthermore, through CaixaBank Payments & Consumer, the Group leads the Iberian market in payment methods, with more than 34 million cards in circulation, upwards of 16 million cardholders, and a 31% share of purchase turnover. In terms of outstanding loans, it has a loan book of €12.9 billion in the Iberian market.

CaixaBank Payments & Consumer encompasses more than 15 companies engaged in consumer spending and payments, all of which are there to expedite and amplify CaixaBank’s capabilities. They are either wholly-owned subsidiaries or co-owned with strategic partners.
