With this new service, CaixaBank Wealth Management aims to become the national benchmark in advisory for business families, corporate governance, and next generations training.
CaixaBank, through CaixaBank Wealth Management, its wealth management division, has launched Family Governance, a new comprehensive advisory and support service for business families with up to 50 million euros in assets.
The entity’s new value proposition thus evolves its Global Wealth service, focused on high-net-worth clients, towards a holistic wealth advisory service, with comprehensive and customized management and a portfolio of services tailored to the complex needs of this type of client.
The Family Governance service, which does not entail any additional cost for Global Wealth clients, adapts to the unique reality of each family and is based on three key pillars: family governance consultancy, NextGen training, and philanthropy advisory, in which the bank is already a pioneer. With this service, CaixaBank Wealth Management aims to become the national benchmark in advisory for business families, corporate governance, and next generations training, anticipating the long-term needs of its clients.
“In a highly complex environment for family businesses, where the skills needed to lead change rapidly, ensuring a successful leadership transition is a priority. At CaixaBank Wealth Management, we want to accompany our clients and the new generations in this process, going beyond traditional financial management and evolving towards a comprehensive family advisory and consulting service,” says Belén Martín, head of CaixaBank Wealth Management.
The service integrates both the management of the business family’s economic legacy—its business and family assets—and the management of its socio-emotional legacy, understood as the development of human capital to ensure the maximum potential of each family member; the maintenance of values, culture, reputation, cohesion, and family history; and the development of spiritual capital, with philanthropy advisory.
Family Governance is aimed at business families and family groups with significant assets, as well as founders, successors, and family offices seeking to establish clear rules for decision-making and legacy protection. The proposal adapts to the complexity and particular needs of each family, offering personalized support at different levels, ranging from the initial diagnosis and formulation of recommendations to access to specialized experts when required. This ensures a professional response tailored to each client’s circumstances.
To this end, CaixaBank has trained its Wealth managers in family governance and mediation in collaboration with IE University. The training program for Wealth managers has been deployed in five modules focused on the strategic transition from family business to business family; behavioral finance; governance and cohesion of business families; generational transition planning; and personal development planning.
Unique and specialized advisory for each family
The Family Governance service offers unique and specialized advisory for each family, accompanying them throughout the process: generating a diagnosis of the family and business structure; advising on ownership structures and decision-making; and designing and implementing various governance structures—family council, family assembly, family constitution. It also offers facilitation of family meetings and succession protocols, as well as mediation and resolution of family conflicts.
The support process for business families is developed in a personalized and progressive manner, adapting to the needs and circumstances of each case. Throughout this journey, joint reflection on family values, objectives, and challenges is facilitated, advice is given on defining structures and policies that promote cohesion and generational continuity, and support is provided in formalizing key agreements and documents for managing family assets and business. The main outcomes of this process include an initial diagnosis, specialized recommendations, and the preparation of documents that help strengthen family governance and legacy.
Regarding NextGen training, CaixaBank Wealth Management will offer, in collaboration with IE University, a training program to prepare the new generation for responsible decision-making regarding assets and business legacy. It will also offer financial and wealth education sessions and promote networking, facilitating access and connections within the NextGen ecosystem. The first NextGen session is scheduled for the end of January and will take place monthly.
Finally, the entity reinforces its philanthropy advisory service, in which it is already a pioneer, focused on family businesses, understanding philanthropy as a tool for cohesion, transmission of values, and building each family’s legacy, with the aim of connecting generations and projecting the family beyond the business sphere.
As a result, CaixaBank Wealth Management evolves its philanthropy service to go beyond advisory, where the family’s philanthropic profile was identified and the model to follow was designed, to accompany, together with external partners, in the execution phase, both in implementation and subsequent monitoring and evolution with impact measurement and strategic review, ensuring continuous support throughout the activity.
