CaixaBank CIB signed eight structured and corporate financing transactions in Canada in 2025, for a total of 960 million Canadian dollars (CAD) and marking growth of 140% compared with the CAD 400 million deployed in 2024 across five transactions. CaixaBank continues to consolidate its activity in Canada, strengthening its position as a leading financial partner in the country.
The transactions in which CaixaBank took part during the period focused primarily on social and transport infrastructure, generating a hugely positive economic and social impact across several provinces. The Bank also took part in energy transition projects, real estate asset financings and corporate support transactions.
Social infrastructure
In 2025, CaixaBank CIB participated in the financing of a 6.3-kilometre tunnel for Line 1 of the Toronto subway extension towards Richmond Hill. More precisely, CaixaBank acted as Mandated Lead Arranger (MLA) and Joint Bookrunner in a CAD 569 million financing structure, committing CAD 108 million.
Another milestone was the financing of Canada’s largest hospital complex, the Trillium M-Site Hospital in Ontario, promoted by EllisDon and PCL. CaixaBank committed CAD 120 million, further reinforcing its commitment to high-impact healthcare infrastructure. In 2024, CaixaBank was involved in the financing of three healthcare complexes, notably including the financing granted to the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) for the construction of a new regional healthcare campus in northern Ontario. The project, located in Moosonee and Moose Factory Island, will serve remote communities in northern Ontario — often described as the “gateway to the Arctic” — and improve access to healthcare services for local residents, many of whom are Indigenous. CaixaBank delivered CAD 116 million in financing for this project, acting as MLA and Bookrunner.
Energy storage
Another landmark project in 2025 was the financing of Project Oneida, a 250 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) facility in Ontario, whose main sponsor is Northland Power. CaixaBank CIB acted as MLA and Green Loan Coordinator.
Representative office in Toronto
CaixaBank has been present in Canada since 2018, when it opened its representative office in Toronto, becoming the only Spanish bank with a physical footprint in the country. Since then, the Bank has taken part in more than CAD 4 billion of structured finance, trade finance, international advisory and risk management transactions.
The Toronto representative office provides trade finance support and advisory services to Spanish companies with interests and operations in Canada, as well as to Canadian multinationals and corporates that operate in Spain. Through its international network, CaixaBank serves companies starting their export activities, as well as large corporates and business groups involved in more complex international projects.
