CaixaBank wins the Global Trade Review "Deal of the Year" award for financing of a Spanish engineering project in Angola
At an awards ceremony in London, CaixaBank was announced as winner in the 2013 Best Foreign Trade Structured Finance Operation category by Global Trade Review (GTR), the world's leading international business and exports publication.
The bank, overseen by Chairman Isidro Fainé and Vice-Chairman and CEO Juan María Nin, received the GTR "Deal of the Year" award for its role in a syndicated loan used to finance an engineering project run by the Spanish company Elecnor, in consortium with Voith, to build a new hydroelectric power plant in Cambambe (Angola).
In association with other banks, several ECAs (Export Credit Agencies) and multilateral agencies, CaixaBank contributed 26 million euro towards the initiative via a buyer loan guaranteed by the CESCE (Spanish Export Credit Company).
The new power plant is sited in the River Cuanzo basin in the north of Angola and has provided much needed electricity supplies to the country's capital of Luanda. Elecnor was responsible for supplies, equipment and commissioning in the second stage of the project.
CaixaBank is one of Spain's most active banks in the syndicated loan market. In 2013 the bank was involved in 100 operations, with total lending investment standing at over 4 billion euro.
Support for international companies
The bank's commitment to driving economic development is palpable in the support that it provides to Spanish companies involved in international projects. CaixaBank's experts in foreign trade also provide consultancy services to guide them as they operate in international markets.
According to figures from TrafficWatch, CaixaBank has a market share of 23% in export documentary credits and 27% in international sureties and guarantees, all as a result of the active role that it plays in international trade operations run by Spanish firms.
Thanks to its large team of industry experts, long experience in international business and projects and extensive foreign network, CaixaBank is the ideal partner for exporting companies. It provides solutions, services and consultancy that is tailored to each client's needs. The bank offers its services to both SMEs and microbusinesses as they take their first steps in export markets, as well as to major corporations and business groups embarking on highly complex operations.
