CaixaBank and MWCapital showcase their experience calculating personal carbon footprints at Simbiòpolis

The exhibit is open to the public free of charge from June 13 to August 31 at Palau Robert in Barcelona

As part of the Simbiòpolis exhibition—organized by Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) and the Government of Catalonia at Palau Robert in Barcelona—CaixaBank is offering an educational and interactive experience that allows visitors to calculate their personal carbon footprint and learn how to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. The bank is a trustee of the Mobile World Capital Foundation and a sponsor of the initiative.

This experience, which was also featured at CaixaBank’s booth during the 2025 Mobile World Congress, aims to raise awareness about the impact of consumption habits on the planet and how small decisions contribute to the global footprint and shape our collective future.

The experience is based on a tool integrated into the CaixaBank app, which uses data computing and artificial intelligence to assess everyday aspects in real time, such as household energy consumption, mobility habits, recycling, and diet. Based on this information, the experience generates personalized recommendations to reduce environmental impact through sustainable technologies and habits.

According to the bank, 80% of users who have used this feature emit less than 5 tons of CO₂ per year, which is the average per capita emission in Spain. With over 6,000 users already, the tool demonstrates the potential of technology to encourage more responsible consumption decisions and contribute to emissions reduction, which fell by 5.5% in the country over the past year.

Simbiòpolis: an exhibition to reflect on technology and society

Simbiòpolis is an initiative by MWCapital and the Government of Catalonia that brings the technological experiences presented at MWC25 closer to the public, offering an artistic and reflective perspective on the role of technology in society. The exhibition is open free of charge from June 13 to August 31 at Palau Robert in Barcelona.

The exhibition is structured into three stages that explore the interrelationship between technology, cities, nature, and people. Spanning 350 m²—twice the size of the previous edition—it features experiences developed in collaboration with organizations such as the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), EIT Urban Mobility, and Vueling, in addition to CaixaBank, alongside artistic proposals by creators like Agnese Lanza, Marc Vilanova, Margherita Landi, Mónica Rikic, Stanza, and Thomas Thwaites.

1. The city of the future in harmony with technology

This section addresses the challenges of urban mobility, from managing overcrowded environments to using digital twins to plan mobility in Barcelona. Artistic installations invite reflection on urban pollution through interactive maps and microfilms.

2. Technology and sustainability to tackle global challenges

This is where CaixaBank’s experience is featured. This stage shows how technology collaborates with nature to promote sustainable living. Visitors can calculate their carbon footprint and receive personalized recommendations to reduce it, in an immersive experience that connects personal decisions with environmental impact.

3. People at the center of a technological future

The final stage focuses on humans as active participants in an interconnected ecosystem. It features experiences such as a robotic platform, an interactive humanoid robot, and a learning metaverse, exploring the relationship between people, technology, and nature.

Parallel activities and future vision

Throughout the more than two months of the exhibition, Simbiòpolis will offer a schedule of complementary activities, including panel discussions, expert talks, and family workshops. Additionally, it has been announced that the agreement between MWCapital and the Government of Catalonia to host technological exhibitions at Palau Robert will be extended until 2028.
With this initiative, MWCapital and CaixaBank demonstrate how technology can be a key tool in building more inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered cities.
