Born in Madrid in 1966. Member of CaixaBank’s Management Committee since February 2020.

Member of CaixaBank’s Management Committee since February 2020.Mr Blas earned his degree in law from the University of Alcalá (Madrid, 1993) and also possesses the following qualifications and training: Advanced Management Programme (AMP) from ESE Business School (Santiago de Chile, 2013), INSEAD-BBVA (2006) corporate programme, Corporate Management Programme at IESE-BBVA (Madrid-2003), New Economics, IESE (Madrid, 2002). 

Before taking office, Mr Blas had served as Head of Engineering & Data and sat on the Management Committee of BBVA Spain from 2015. Prior to that, he had been Head of the Resources Division in Chile and member of the Management Committee of Grupo BBVA Chile (2010-2015). At BBVA Spain, he served as Director Business Partner for Spain and Portugal (2006-2010) and Head of Channel Design and Development (2004-2006). At BBVA Consumer Finance Spain, he was Head of Resources and member of the Management Committee (2001-2004) and Head of Organisation at uno-e bank (2000-2001). He was previously a manager at Andersen Consulting-BPM (1999-2000) and Head of the Organisation Department (1996-1999) and Chief Accountant (1995-1996) at Abbey National Bank – Spain. He also held various positions at Banco Central Hispano (1986-1994). 

He has sat on the following boards of directors: Veridas (2019-January, 2020), BBVA Information Technology Spain (2018-January, 2020), Chairman of OP Plus (2015-January, 2020), Redsys (2015-January, 2020), BBVA Seguros (2015-January, 2020), Fórum (Chile, 2015), AGF BBVA (Chile, 2015), Redbanc (Chile, 2013-2015), and Previred (Chile, 2010-2013). Within the industry, Mr Blas has been a member of the CIO Executive Council (Madrid, 2017-January, 2020), Chairman of the Operations Managers and Technology Committee attached to ABIF (Chile, 2011-2015) and member of the Management Committee of the Centre for Interbank Cooperation (Madrid, 2001-2004).
