The Board of Directors of CaixaBank has approved the appointment of Tomás Muniesa the current Chief Insurance and Asset Management Officer of CaixaBank and CEO of VidaCaixa, as the new Deputy Chairman of the bank, replacing Antonio Massanell, who is retiring from CaixaBank. The appointment is pending the evaluation of the ECB.
The Board of Directors has thanked Antonio Massanell for his commitment and dedication to the bank's project since joining in 1971, as well as his indispensable contribution in positioning CaixaBank as one of the leading entities in the Spanish financial sector. The board also recognised his contribution to the digital strategy of the bank, and his determined commitment to innovation, which has always formed part of CaixaBank's DNA.
During his period as Deputy Chairman, of particular note is his work in propelling the international expansion of the Group, through the opening of representative offices, supporting the bank's customers abroad (individuals and businesses) in their international endeavours.
Antonio Massanell was Deputy Chairman of CaixaBank from June 2014 and, prior to that, held several executive positions in “la Caixa” Group, the last of which being CEO of Resources of CaixaBank.
Jordi Gual, the Chairman of CaixaBank, will be the new director at Repsol. CaixaBank will make a proposal to Telefónica for the appointment of Jordi Gual as director representing the bank to replace Antonio Massanell.
Tomás Muniesa, new Deputy Chairman of CaixaBank
The Board of Directors of CaixaBank has decided to appoint Tomás Muniesa, as the new Deputy Chairman of the entity, carrying on his current duties as CEO of the insurance and asset management business at CaixaBank.
Currently, Tomás Muniesa is also the CEO of VidaCaixa, director of the Insurance Compensation Consortium, Deputy Chairman of SegurCaixa Adeslas, de Seguros y Reaseguros, director of VITHAS, Allianz Portugal and member of the ESADE Foundation Board of Trustees.
Holder of a Degree in Business Studies and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the ESADE Business School, Tomás Muniesa joined “la Caixa” in 1976. He was appointed as Deputy General Manager in 1992 and then CEO of CaixaBank in 2011.
