In the first Chapter of CaixaBank’s Masterclass series in collaboration with The Banker magazine, Gonzalo Gortázar, CaixaBank CEO, discusses new emerging technologies and their impact on the banking business model.

One of the biggest impacts technology is having on the banking business model is how it affects the way that clients interact. At CaixaBank, clients are moving from being mostly physical to becoming mostly digital: 5.2 million mobile clients and 1.5 million clients visiting the website daily. As transactionality moves online, with the number of mobile transactions growing by 50% per annum, desired in-branch services become focused on higher value added services, such as advisory.

The digital transformation journey is really affecting the whole banking business model in a very significant manner, from new digital product distribution models, to new digital players in the retail banking space.
