CaixaBank wins the 'Retail Banker of the Year' award for the 2016 world's best bank in innovation

• The accolade comes in recognition of the technological milestones achieved by CaixaBank in recent months, including the incorporation of Barclays Spain and launch of imaginBank.

• The bank also won the ‘Best Mobile Banking' award for the year.

• In the first quarter CaixaBank secured 23% growth in mobile transactions, reaching a total of 377 million operations and serving 2.9 million customers.

CaixaBank has won the ‘Retail Banker of the Year' award at the Retail Banker International Awards in London, for the world's best innovation strategy in 2016. The bank, presided over by Chairman Isidro Fainé and CEO Gonzalo Gortázar, also picked up the ‘Best Mobile Banking' award.

The Retail Banker International Awards annually honour the world's leading banks in innovation, based on both their creativity and business results. The awards are run by Retail Banker International (RBI) magazine, which covers the worldwide retail banking industry.

The judges at the Retail Banker International Awards praised CaixaBank "for its extensive range of products and services, the successful incorporation of Barclays Spain, for being an international leader in the global mobile banking rankings run by Forrester Research and for the launch of imaginBank, Spain's first mobile-only bank and the first bank anywhere in the world to exclusively provide banking services via apps for mobiles and social networks".

CaixaBank, a leader in mobile banking

CaixaBank is considered a leading innovator in financial services worldwide, serving 5 million online customers and 2.9 million active mobile banking customers.

In the first quarter 2016 the bank handled 377 million mobile transactions, representing growth of 23% compared to the first quarter 2015. The mobile platform now represents the second largest channel for serving customers, accounting for 20% of all transactions processed by CaixaBank. 39% of CaixaBank customers transfer funds via mobile devices. Based on data from January to March 2016, more than 130 million mobile transactions are completed each month.

The bank provides its customers with a range of 70 financial service applications, which receive more than 3 million downloads annually.

As part of its strategy of spearheading the digitalisation of the financial industry and driving mobile banking, in January 2016 CaixaBank launched imaginBank, Spain's first mobile-only bank and the first bank anywhere in the world to exclusively provide banking services via apps for mobiles and social networks.

The RBI accolade follows other international awards won by CaixaBank for innovation. These include the title of "Best Bank in Spain 2015" from Euromoney, and recognition from Forrester Research as the world's best mobile banking service provider.
